So what's all the hype over Love?

I was asked by a friend once to try and explain my belief that the English language sucks when it comes to the meaning of the word love. I started by saying that Greek and Hebrew have a multitude of words for emotions or ties that we only have the one word "Love". In saying all that I don't think I ever got my point across. People all over the world only ever understand emotions based on the experiences they posses that have been correlated with those emotions, right or wrong, truth or a lie! If you experienced a bad childhood and were told every day that they loved you, love wouldn't be a good thing. I've been told that even battered spouses think their abuser loves them, and maybe they do love them but it's not true love, it's not correct love, it's not pure love, and it's not the love of the Father. So I'm left with a question that's been asked a million times, Is this love or just a feelin, (thank you Survivor), to answer that question we have to ask a few other questions. 1.)Does this emotion make me want to prefer the other person over myself? a.) Would I rather see them happy or is it all to get something for me? b.) Would I suffer not getting what I want to see them get what they want? 2.)Does this emotion make me proud and loud about myself to them and others around them? 3.)Does this emotion make me angry with them or does it make me want to be understanding? 4.)Does this emotion make me forget about their past and anything that might have gone wrong between us? Now I know it's not a cut and dry thing to answer each of these but it shouldn't be hard either. When you can answer all of that you will have a good understanding of what true love means. There are a lot more where those came from just look it up ... or ask and I'll tell you the rest.
